An Introduction to Electric Showers

Electric showers, a relavtively new bathroom shower appliance, are designed to generate hot water as you use it, removing the reliance on a traditional

shower unit that is pressurised by your main water tank. Traditional shower units will heat water from your main tank when you put on the boiler. When this

occures, cold water replaces the hot water you are using and this results in the temperature dropping after some time.

If you share a property and are the unlucky second or third person in line to use the shower, you may fine the water is cold. You then have to wait for the

system to heat up again. Newer boilers, often referred to as “Combi-Boilers” because they heat your radiators and water, operate in the same way but continue

to heat water as you use it. This removes the problem of traditional shower system. However, it can be costly to run a combi-boiler and it also doesn’t

remove the reliance of a single system. Remember, boilers have traditionally be used to heat the radiators in a home and not for powering showers.

In step electric showers, separate shower appliances that are powered from your mains electricity supply and

heats water immediately when you switch the shower on. This results in reduced power bills as you are only heating water as you use it.

Electric showers have had some bad press with users suggesting that they only output a low pressure, resulting in a shower that is often like rain water.

However, this is no longer the case as electric power showers have evolved and entered the market.

The cost of a new electric shower unit can vary from £100 to £300 depending on the brand and design. Popular brands include Mira and Triton and there are

plenty to choose from.

Samsung launches refrigerator with 7-inch LCD

Samsung has released the RFG299 French Door Refrigerator with a 7-inch touchscreen LCD that not only allows users to control the refrigerator’s temperature or monitor its water filter status, but also access integrated calendars, schedules, photos, nutrition facts and unit conversions. Apart from the built-in gadget, the fridge has the largest capacity of any standard-sized refrigerator with a French door design, at 28.5 cubic feet, Samsung claims. The company achieved a 14 percent bump in capacity compared to its older French door design by using high-rate urethane insulation technology to reduce the wall thickness. The fridge also uses LED lighting that offers better internal illumination and is Energy Star-compliant. It also sports a door alarm that will go off when any of the three doors are left open for longer than two minutes.

Now available in stainless steel at Best Buy, the Samsung RFG299 French Door Refrigerator is priced at $3,099. Other colors, including stainless platinum, black and white, are expected to join the range in the future.
